Medimedi’s Journey
How we reshape healthcare education with medical illustrations and immersive XR solutions
Where we begin
Medimedi began with a vision to address the critical gaps in healthcare education in Indonesia, particularly in medical training. The current CEO, a graduate of Medical Visualization from the University of Glasgow and the first medical illustrator in Indonesia, saw firsthand the shortage of essential anatomical learning tools like cadavers and the lack of biomedical teaching resources for the growing number of healthcare students.
Driven by the desire to improve learning, Medimedi has been developing hundreds of medical illustrations, animations and videos making it easier to communicate complex healthcare informations. However, as the journey progressed, it became clear that media alone weren’t enough. Medical professionals need to excel in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills—domains that traditional illustrations could not fully cover.
This realization led to the evolution of Medimedi into the world of Extended Reality (XR), incorporating immersive VR and AR technologies. XR offered the potential to engage all three learning domains, providing a more comprehensive training experience. The framework of DICE—Design, Implement, Collaborate, Evaluate—was created as a solution to the disparities in healthcare education, reaching students and professionals across the nation, no matter where they were located.
Alongside a talented team that includes experts in nursing, medical visualization, biomedical specialists, and more, Medimedi’s mission became clear: to revolutionize healthcare education. With partnerships and a shared vision, the team is building a future where healthcare training is immersive, practical, and accessible through XR technology.
